    General Note:
    5th/6th century papyrus manuscript with very few corrections, most of which are in the same hand as the rest of the text. One gathering (Eta) consists of ten complete leaves unbound into five bifolia; plus one leaf, the first leaf of gathering 16 (Iota Stigma).
    General Note:
    The original manuscript comprised at least 22 gatherings, each consisting of four or five bifolia. About ninety percent of the manuscript is now extant; the University of Cologne has about half, with the Cairo Museum, the Bodmeriana (Geneva), the British Library, and Brigham Young University sharing the rest. The full gathering in the BYU collection is the 8th gathering of the original codex. The single leaf in the BYU collection is from the 16th gathering; other leaves from this gathering are at the British Library, including the conjugate leaf to BYU's.

    Portions of the manuscript not owned by BYU have been published in Michael Gronewald, et al., eds., Psalmenkommentar (Tura-Papyrus) (Bonn : R. Habelt, 1968-1970), and Aloys Kehl, ed., Der Psalmenkommentar von Tura, Quaternio IX (Pap. Colon. theol. 1)(Köln : Westdeutscher Verlag, 1964).
    General Note:
    Details of the single leaf: The recto has the marks Iota Stigma (marking gathering 16 of the original codex) and Lambda Stigma (marking the beginning of Psalm 36); the commentary covers Ps. 36:1-3. This leaf is p. 241-242 of the original codex. The leaf appears to have a palimpsest text in the right margin of the recto.
    General Note:
    Details of bifolium 1/10 of the full gathering: At line 5 of 1R is the lemma for Ps. 26:10; at line 22 of 10R is the lemma for Ps. 29.1. The signature is marked Eta on 1R (marking signature 8 of the original codex); there is a parchment sewing guard along the outside fold, 15 x 213 mm., with Greek uncial characters from an older manuscript.

    Details of bifolium 3/8 of the full gathering: At line 20 of 8V is the lemma for Ps. 28:10. Side 3V/8R of the sheet contains an unknown Greek palimpsest text.

    Other forms:
    The manuscript has been photographed in its entirety at exact size, both in full color (cibachrome) and in high contrast black and white. This photograph should be used by researchers before consulting the manuscript.
    Custodial history:
    The manuscript was discovered around 1940 at the Tura quarries near Cairo during an army excavation. The single leaf was obtained by Major B. Austen, an official at the excavation; it was sold at Sotheby's to H.P. Kraus 25 Apr. 1983, and bought from Kraus by BYU.
    Custodial history:
    The full quire was obtained in 1941 by the brother-in-law of Frances B. Parnegian, an engineer at the excavation. It was given in 1959 to Mr. Parnegian, who died in 1962, whereupon ownership went to Mrs. Parnegian, who sold it to BYU in 1984.
